I've also been checking out the #occupyklout posts on Twitter. I agree, it's definitely interesting to see how displeased users are with the new Klout algorithm. It seems to be a trend with social media users- whenever there's a change on Facebook, it seems that my whole feed is of people expressing their feelings about it. But social media is always changing, and we always just adapt.

Thanks. Perks are certainly an interesting feature, bringing the more-is-more loyalty tactic into the social age. It will be interesting to see the response to Klout perks following the 10.26 introduction of the new algorithm. Many users are quite displeased, it's interesting to see the cri-de-coeur of #occupyklout that's become a fun,yet meaningful trend in the last 24 hours.

What's my score? My great communities of Tweeps, LinkedIns, and G+s.

I read the post you linked to but I still think that most people treat social media like their calendar. If you calendar is full then you must be doing something valuable for your organization. I teach my clients to use all internet tools to drive to some type of business result, so TGI's example in your linked post is perfect, getting 1 million fans to a campaign FB page is a complete waste of time, if you can't convert that into some business object that either helps the top or bottom line.

I touched on this in my post <a href="http://roihunters.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/you-2-0-the-storymaker/" rel="nofollow">You 2.0 - The Storymaker</a>

Definitely -- and you're right, Living Social does have the sales force on the ground. This makes it easier for them to have a presence, but it also serves as a barrier to entry because they certainly aren't going to invest in those resources unless they know for sure that the market is going to be lucrative. That being said, I think with folks actively demanding to see more deals in suburban areas, Living Social will have the leg up on being able to deliver in the long run. Now I live in a town of about 10,000, so I don't expect deals to be popping up in my town any time soon (or ever!) but I do expect the gap to be closed between my small town and Boston, which lies just 40 miles away and boasts over 6 million residents.

LivingSocial seems to be more aggressive with this. They have "feet on the ground" and are hiring local sales reps to go out and sell to local businesses. For example, LivingSocial has a presence in my hometown of Waco, metro population of 230,000, while Groupon does not. The reason is that LivingSocial has a local sales rep, Groupon does not.
